Rabbi Ephraim Pelcovits, ordained by The Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS), May 2010, where he was a Legacy Heritage Fund Rabbinic Fellow, a Neubauer Family Fellow, the recipient of the "David Scharps Memorial Prize in Talmud" and of the "Edward Feder Peace Prize" (for his senior sermon), will assume our pulpit on August 1, 2010. Prior to his ordination, he received an M.A. in Talmud and Rabbinics, also from JTS. In preparation for his ordination, he was a rabbinic student in the Machon Schechter, in Israel (2007-2008), and before that, in Yeshivat Sha’’arei Mevaseret Zion (1997-1998). In addition to having served as spiritual leader of Congregation B’nai Shalom (Williamsville, NY), Rabbi Pelcovits served as chaplain at Bellevue Hospital, N.Y., and as a commissioned lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve. His teaching experience has been with young people, including those with special needs, and with seniors. He has been engaged in interfaith programs through the Interreligious Coordinating Council in Jerusalem and in Encounter, an organization dedicated to improving relations between Jews and Palestinians, in New York and Jerusalem. A magna cum laude graduate of Brandeis University (2002), Rabbi Pelcovits received his B.A. degree, with a major in History and minors in Art History and Near Eastern and Judaic Studies, and was admitted to the distinguished liberal arts society, Phi Beta Kappa. Rabbi Pelcovits is married to Rachel Weber, an artist, and they have a son, Alexander. Click to learn about |
